Restore Yourself At Ballymote
We have thoroughly enjoyed restoring Ballymote with family belongings from down the generations. We hope your time with us will prove every bit as ‘restorative’ and that we will become one of your fond memories.
Relax, enjoy, and above all make yourself at home!
Room to Unwind
Every room at Ballymote has its own special and distinctive character. We don’t do ‘standard’. What you can expect are the highest standards of individuality. Attention to the smallest detail is our starting point. The Lavender or Seaweed soap is specially made by our nephew, the towels are exceptionally fluffy and all the linen is highest quality, as befits a “Linen Family”. If you prefer sheets to duvets consider it done, just let us know in advance. If a cup of tea appeals, we can provide 8 different blends to complement the time of day, accompanied by home made shortbread.
At Ballymote we don’t have ‘guest areas’. The house is yours, offering the unexpected magic of a quiet corner to sit in the sun as it streams through a window, or to admire an arrangement of fresh flowers while you leaf through a magazine. If it sounds totally idyllic, that’s very simply because it is! Do wander around our very special 10 acres of Parkland and find a peaceful place to sit and contemplate nature and the birdsong. Just pick up the rugs and cushions that are by the front door and make yourself comfortable.
In our Drawing Room, a wood fire welcomes guests back from busy exploration. At dusk, feel that sense of complete welcome and well being as we close the shutters, draw the ceiling to floor curtains and invite you to settle down in one of our comfortable antique chairs or sofa. Perhaps you would like to start a game of chess or backgammon before going out to dinner or on your return? On your way out to dinner, be sure to glance at the unique pictures of our equestrian ancestors, taken from the first book ever produced in England on dressage. Highly appropiate in a horsey household!
After returning from dinner, why not enjoy a bottle of wine by the drawing room fire? Or browse our library of local history and reference books, some of which may inspire an investigation of your own family history, or help help if you are already tracing your Irish roots.
Next morning, experience breakfast on our Irish table known in polite circles as a “Hunt” table but also referred to as a “Wake” table! Breakfast timings are extremly flexible and it is served up until 10 am.
If you have any special dietary requirements, just let me know in advance. We are used to cooking for allergies, Gluten free, Vegetarians or Vegans.
