The kitchen is the warm heart of any Irish country house and Ballymote is no exception. Good food emanating from it is fundamental to enjoyment of this good life and we are passionate about it.
Every morsel we cook and serve is sourced locally and fully home made wherever possible, then prepared to our own family recipes handed down through generations.
We are extremly fortunate to have large orchards and lots of fruit and vegetables from our son, Edward’s farm, Ballydugan, which are turned into unusal jams and compotes.
All tastes and dietary requirements are catered for with care and imagination, including vegetarians, all allergies, gluten free and vegan. Just let us know before your stay.
Breakfast – A Meal And A Way Of Life! The Ballymote breakfast has one purpose: to set you up for the day ahead! Our Full Cooked Ulster Fry boasts not just four or five but a full eight separate and delicious temptations, including free range eggs in any style you can think of, sausages made to our recipe, dry-cured bacon, black & white puddings, vine tomatoes and mushrooms, sometimes picked from our fields and front lawn (don’t worry, we are expert pickers!). Top and tail this ‘quare feast’ with porridge, with possibly a tot of Irish whiskey, home made muesli, fresh fruits and no fewer than four different kinds of breads, with home made jams, marmalades or our son’s honey, from Ballydugan, to go with them. For those who want an alternative to meat or simply fancy a change, we offer such delights as poached nectarines with lemon zest and vanilla, poached plums with star anise and dried fruits coddled in Earl Grey tea with lemon zest. A long, long time after your Ballymote breakfast, you will be ready to eat again!
As you can gather, we are passionate about local produce and cooking it to sublimely high standards. We also love eating out to discover new tastes, so if you want an unbiased recommendation for a memorable meal and a restaurant booking made, our local knowledge is at your disposal. The variety of places to eat around us is quite outstanding. An amazing foodie paradise, ranging from a Michelin noted one via simple pubs to an outstanding seafood restaurant.
